Irresolutions
I don't have a good track record with resolutions, but what the hell, everyone's doin' it. At least I chose three I have a chance of keeping:
#1: Write More. In 2004 I wrote one halfway decent story, started a couple of others, and wrote a half-hour teleplay (for a contest; I didn't win). For 2005 I'd like to do better. I have a few stories kicking around that I'd like to complete and get out of the house. Tinkering with unfinished stories always drives out new work with me (and, I suspect, most writers).
#2: Get More Exercise. I'm not so much worried about my weight as I am about the fact that I'm out of shape. So, in 2005, I resolve to restart my exercise program, which I abandoned when the new baby came. Hopefully I will be in fighting trim by Bouchercon, so I can dunk on S.J. Rozan's head.
#3: Fuck Off Less. If I could have back half the time I've pissed away in the last fifteen or so years, I could write The Brothers Karamazov and War And Peace and still keep my day job. Everybody needs to blow off "serious" pursuits from time to time, but damn, I've spent more time playing Wing Commander and watching the Atlanta Braves than I've spent doing just about anything else.
And I also resolve to buy a drink at B'Con for everyone who leaves a comment on this post. Who says I'm not a whore!
