Sicko
I guess it's appropriate, but this week I've been suffering the ATTACK OF GREEN SLIME FROM ANOTHER WORLD!!!! Yes, I've been sick. And it's been gross. The only good part: Benadryl gives you cool dreams! Last night I dreamed I learned a new pitch (the cut fastball) and dominated the league. Which was strange, because I was actually throwing a RIDING fastball. See, a cut fastball moves down and away, while a riding fastball... oh, never mind.
My current infirmity has not been good for much sympathy, either. By three o'clock on Monday I was ready to head to the house, when one of my co-workers (I'm talkin' to you, Dave!) showed up and said, "Hey, let's pick up those servers from the stockroom!" So I spent another hour two cartloads of gear through elevators and down hallways. I got him back later, though. I sneezed in his box of Mike & Ikes.
Not to be gross, but the worst part of a cold is the noise. It's a bit upsetting when your nose flutters/whistles/rattles every time you draw a breath. Neither snorting nor blowing seemed to clean out the gunk so I could take peaceful, silent breaths. When you're totally stopped up, of course, there's the whole "mouth-breathing" problem. Worse, my wife is sick, too. Your own nose noises are nothing compared to those of your significant other. And what can you do? "Wake up, honey, your nose is rumbling like Mount St. Helens, right before it erupted." Yeah, that would fly.
And when your kids want you to read a book before bed? I croaked through, as hoarse as Harvey Fierstein. As for my runny nose, well... the eggs and ham weren't the only things that were green.
The other day we returned from visiting my father and The State Fair of Louisiana over in Shreveport. We'd taken our portable TV/DVD player with us, and after we got home, my wife carried it into the kitchen, where she watches the news every morning while fixing the kids' breakfast. I noticed she was flipping around and getting nothing but static.
