Second Time Around
Good news - I have managed to sell a second story. Victoria Esposito-Shea and the crew over at HandHeldCrime are going to run my story Lie Beneath The Clay in their February issue. Lie is a mystery, a combination of regional writing and police procedural set in rural East Texas. One of the better things I've written. And, thanks to Pay Pal, I've already got my money. Now I can quit my job and write full time! Okay, so it's only a few bucks, but HandHeldCrime is downloaded by 20,000 people a month, so it will at least get my name out there.
I suppose that technically this is my third sale, since I placed a story in Blue Murder before it disappeared into the deep grey bit-bucket in the sky. Blue Murder was always sort of lowbrow, but they published a lot of hard-boiled fiction that there's a very limited market for, and they paid, too (which is probably what drove them out of business).
I've got another story in the hopper and another couple lined out, so if everything works out, this could be a veeery good year.
